Could the Vampire Craze Resurrect Moonlight?

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but vampires are all the rage these days.

With the success of Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, bloodsuckers have taken over popular culture. It seems like anything involving creatures of the night is guaranteed to bring beaucoup bucks to the company producing it. Too bad, then, for CBS that it canceled cult-hit series Moonlight for low ratings just as the full wave of vampire mania was hitting.

But wait, if Moonlight was canceled way back when, why are rumors flying that it might come back? I’ve gotten many emails from you fans lately asking about this talk, and here’s what I’m hearing from my sources…

Gabrielle Stanton, one of the show’s original writers and executive producers, tells me exclusively that rumors about the resurrection of Moonlight have been greatly exaggerated. When I emailed to ask if the fan questions I was getting about a possible return had any basis in fact, Gabrielle replied, “Wow, no. This is the first I’ve heard about it. Will have to look into it, but I hope they don’t get their hopes up too much.”

Meanwhile, a CBS rep debunked reports that CBS had reopened an online comments forum asking fans to weigh in about the future of the show. Sad face.

It’s not looking so good after all for a Moonlight miracle, but then again, CBS has pulled the plug on Alex O’Loughlin’s Three Rivers, which means he’s at least available to play Mick St. John again, should the opportunity arise.

Are you still hoping that Moonlight finds its way back to TV, or have you moved on to other obsessions? Hit the comments!

I appreciated Moonlight. But on the note of bringing back epic vampire TV stories, I’m going to have to go with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel – both of which I feel didn’t end satisfactorily. But alas, these might be naive hopes; at least Moonlight’s return would up the sad quality of the vampire genre right now.

Moonlight was one of the best shows on at the time of its demise. CBS had said the shows rating were not great, but once you got down to the nitty gritty the ratings we good. I read a few articles and they (CBS) said some of the actors were getting other (better, I would think) offers. When it gets right down to it I think they made a HUGE mistake. The show was great, the cast, especially Alex O’Loughlin, was great and timing was perfect. Now they have supposedly axed Three Rivers. Another stupid move.

Come CBS … you’ve fallen into the “cancel everything if it doesn’t break out of the gate in its first 6 or so shows mode. If given time I think Three Rivers would be a success.

As for “the resurrection of Moonlight” … would be a smart move, but will the network admit it was wrong the first time? Even if they did, would bulk of the cast be available &/or want to reprise their rolls?

There ya go … my thoughts for what they are worth!
